CCTV News: Nanjing G20 in Review

April 3, 2011

This weekend I’m on CCTV News Dialogue, with host Tian Wei, discussing the topics surrounding this week’s G-20 meeting in Nanjing, China.  My fellow guest was Xu Sitao, chief China representative for the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).  We agreed on some matters, such as the impact inflation in China is having on the real exchange rate, but agreed to disagree about the pace of China’s progress towards currency convertibility and financial sector reform.  Our brief exchange on the “internationalization” of the RMB probably raises more questions than it answers, and I hope to have the time to address this issue in all its nuts and bolts in a future blog post here, as I promised long ago that I would.  In the meantime, you can watch the program here.

Your fellow guest was about the least insightful representative of the Economist that I have ever encountered.
